After topping off an impressive season with a 22-4 record, this year’s boys soccer team is back and ready to pick up where they left off with the addition of many new faces.
“We have a very, very good amount of depth with exceptional, quality players,” boys soccer head coach Tom Breznitsky said. “We are very well-balanced and have excellent chemistry. One of the best chemistries we’ve had as a team.”
Leading the team this year are senior captains Brogan Quigley, Aaron Schack, Jonathan Schwab and Jack Brady.
“With guys like John Murphy and Tommy Devizio leaving, it definitely made my role more substantial,” Schwab said. “Considering that I’m one of the few guys returning with game experience, I knew it was time to step up and lead. Both by example, and vocally.”
Despite the loss of two key players from last year, the team still has a solid roster of 26 players – seven seniors and 19 underclassmen. Of these, there are many prominent players expected to perform well this year; for example, in addition to captains, seniors Anthony Miguelino, Benny Essenfeld and Jacy DiBella-Lentini, as well as juniors Michael and Alex Ferrera, Rock Valian and Jon Koseoglu.
While the team has many strengths as a whole, one of their most valuable assets is their versatility.
“We have is a lot of kids that can play all over the place,” Breznitsky said. “We’ve got several kids that are versatile.”
Skills like this are what what make their dynamic so unique, and will help them continue to achieve their goals of success.
“After just falling short of the state championship last season, we were hungry coming into this season,” Schwab said. “We weren’t satisfied with how things things ended last season and we want to prove more.”
Now more than ever the team has their eyes on the prize, and are hoping to win it all– county, section, and eventually state.
